Over the Winter Break, Uncle Phil's Deli was removed from Alexander Dining Hall. This was a great convenient place to get a sandwich when the dining hall was closed or students were in a rush. It always seemed to be busy. Without Uncle Phil's in The Greystone, students who live on Western are forced to walk far distances yet again.

I'm sure most people would agree that our food here at Miami is excellent, but with a busy college schedule, I usually don't get the chance to eat dinner in the 5-7pm window. It's great that Shriver, BT To-Go, and Sundial offer options after 7pm throughout the week, but I get really tired of pizza and bagel sandwiches. It'd be nice to have some more variety like we do during the rest of the day.

Think about all the posters, fliers, etc. that are printed every day for use on campus. All of that adds up. The Print Center at Gaskill should offer recycled paper for printing purposes, in an effort to reduced our negative effects.

Trying to find a cubicle is hard enough in the evenings, let alone, trying to find a cubicle that has an electrial outlet for your computer. The cubicles away from the walls should have electrical outlets so students can work on their computers for extended amounts of time without worrying about their battery dying.

Something needs to be done regarding admission to the hockey games such as numbered wrist bands or something of the sort. It is insane that you have to wait in line for 4 hours just to get a seat in the student section. Then most of the time one person will save a spot in line for 6 of their friends and so with a half hour left until game time, people are cutting in line because someone else saved them a spot.

I love how many cigarette butts there are outside of the doors of king, especially around finals time. Not only are the butts there but there is a pack of smokers too (usually at least 3 people). How about Miami actually enforces the law they passed about having the campus being smoke free. I mean they are so quick to bust people for drinking underage, why not be as strict to all offenders?

Currently, the doors across from King Cafe close when King Cafe does. I'd like to see them remain open no matter when King Cafe closes.

I think Miami's students should be given the opportunity to recycle even when they are walking to class. There seems to be only one of these kinds of receptacles (with garbage and recycling,) and that is right in front of King Cafe. Let's work to see them all around campus.

Many sidewalks on Miami's campus need some work. There are also a lot of 'trails' created by heavy pedestrian traffic cutting through the grass. In order to keep Miami a beautiful and well kept campus, I would like to see these replaced with a concrete or asphalt pathway, rather than kept as dead grass and mud.

A recent Miami News Bulletin detailed the huge increase in merit-based scholarships for next year's freshman class. http://www.miami.muohio.edu/news/article/view/12896 "Miami University is expanding merit scholarship packages to recognize student achievement and to continue to make a high quality education more affordable for students.
Both in-state and out-of-state students in next fall’s first-year class will benefit.
Miami’s merit scholarship packages for Ohio residents offer guaranteed aid on this scale: Students with a 30 or higher ACT composite (or 1330 or higher SAT: critical reading + math (CR+M)) + 3.70 GPA or above on 4.0 scale will receive $6,500; those with 28 or 29 ACT composite (or 1250-1320 SAT CR+M) + 3.70 or above GPA will receive $4,500; students with 26 or 27 ACT composite (or 1170-1240 SAT CR+M) + 3.70 GPA or above will receive $2,000.
High-achieving out-of-state students will receive merit scholarship packages as such: students with 30 or higher ACT composite (or 1330 or higher SAT CR+M) + 3.70 or above GPA on 4.0 scale will receive $9,000; those with a 28 or 29 ACT composite (or 1250-1320 SAT CR+M) + 3.70 or above GPA will receive $7,000; students with a 26 or 27 ACT composite (or 1170-1240 SAT CR+M) + 3.70 GPA or above will receive $4,500.
These awards are renewable for up to four years."
As a member of the class of 2013, with high school test scores and GPA that would get me $6,500 if I was in the class of 2014, I'm a little confused as to where Miami got all of this money, when my class got very little financial aid. As an Honors student, my class was the first to not receive a guaranteed, renewable $2,000 scholarship for being in the Honors program. So, the class of 2013 has missed out on both financial benefits for their meritous achievements. Isn't recognition of academic achievement what the Honors program, and what Miami University, is all about? Maybe Miami could redistribute these funds to benefit the class of 2013, who has arguably been hit hardest by the recession and received very few renewable scholarships as incoming freshmen, or other classes that also did not receive nearly this much in merit-based aid. Is Miami so desperate for qualified students that they will hand out this much money as an incentive? How have these scholarships increased so greatly within one year?

11am is way too late to open the dining halls. Some students may sleep in, but others have to get up early and want to have breakfast before they start the day. 10am is the latest they should open it.

I don't know about the other halls, but Tappan and several other residence halls do not have easily accessible recycling bins in lobbies and/or basements. This makes it convenient for many people to throw their recyclable bottles and paper in regular trash cans. We should add recycling bins to increase recycling efforts.

Teachers should be required to have their books listed on Blackboard up to a month before school starts so that students have time to order their books on-line if they don't want to pay for the over priced books offered uptown or in the bookstore. Also the teachers should not just expect every student to have their books the first day of class if they don't post the book list ahead of time its just not fair.

I live in an older dorm, and I have had to open the window countless times in the winter because it was too hot. Likewise, I freeze when they refuse to turn the heat on. The poor controlling of the steam heat is literally money flying out the windows. Invest in room controlled thermostats so each room can turn the heat off and on as we see fit. It will in the end save money and energy, and give students more control over their environment.

Shouldn't we consider students of all shapes/sizes/colors/religions/sexual orientations and ABILITIES and DISABILITIES? I think so.

Having your own personal printer can be a hassle because:
1) Takes up Space 2) You run out of ink relatively quickly 3) You have to have have your own supply of paper 4) A lot of printers are constantly plugged but are not always being used - a waste of energy
Biggest benefits:
1) Saved Energy 2) Student convenience
Last minute thoughts that can be discussed later:
1) Store printing supplies in places such as the RA Closet or where cleaning supplies are located 2) Make the RAs and Staff in charge of the print station
Drawbacks to Print Centers in residence halls:
1) People messing with the printers - foul play

I'd like to see a change in the bathroom showers. In Dennison (3rd floor) we have one hook to hang things on. I've been into quite a few other dorms they all have nice shower stalls, where you can dress in one and shower in the other not a big community shower. I look forward to break so i can take a real shower, without worrying about my clothes dropping on the floor.

We, the Architecture and Interior Design students of Miami University live in our studios in Alumni Hall. Literally - sometimes we sleep here. We get so much work that cannot be done in our rooms or in King so we really have no choice but to be here at basically all times. With that said - coffee is NEEDED to keep us sane. Simply adding a machine wouldn't hurt anyone, would it? In fact, it would probably help keep people from slicing fingers etc. when they are too tired to work.

Make it easier to print on both sides of the page when printing from the libraries. Last year I saw signs at the King print stations advertising front/back printing but when I asked a librarian how to do it I was sent to the CIM lab. The guy working there had no idea how to do it. Making front and back printing easier would save a lot of paper.

Give students living both on and off campus a reasonable place to park and stop using parking tickets as a means of raising revenue

Heritage Commons is considered off-campus even though the residents have to pay Miami to live there, Miami forces an RA to live in each Hall, and the buildings are on land that Miami owns. If we are forced to live with an RA like every other on-campus dorm, then we should be able to have an on-campus meal plan.

Not a big deal once again but the new building keeps all its lights on 24/7. Nobody is even in that building for at least 8 hours a day.
8 hours a day x 365 days seems like a lot of wasted energy

I went to the market around 4am and it wasn't open.

People have classes during the day. When i have free time after classes, these buildings are closed. No one's going to get up at 8am to go drop a class or go to the health or get their computer fixed. Maybe change the hours from 10 am to 6:30 or 7pm.
